Ámina is a Tokyo-based R&B singer with roots in both Japan and Sudan. Growing up, she was exposed to old-school ’80s pop, R&B, and jazz; as a teenager, she was heavily influenced by alternative UK rock; and after moving to Tokyo, she was deeply inspired by ’70s disco and black music. She performs primarily in Tokyo, making the most of her low vocal range and unique timbre. Her singing style centers on a vocal technique that weaves in the rhythmic sensibilities and scat singing characteristic of Black music, blended with a vocal style influenced by UK rock, giving her a truly one-of-a-kind voice. In recent years, she has been producing her own music alongside her live performances, and she is one of the artists to watch in the future.
