Tompuvan
Tompuvan is an experimental Borneo ethnic fusion band from Sabah, Malaysia, formed in 2018. The name Tompuvan, meaning “beautiful spirit” in Kadazan, represents the band’s belief that music has the power to unite people, cultures, and generations.
Rooted in the rich musical traditions of Borneo, Tompuvan blends indigenous instruments such as the sekafi, kulintangan, and traditional percussion with modern instruments, contemporary arrangements, and experimental sounds. Their music creates a distinctive sonic identity that connects the ancient and the modern, while introducing the cultural heritage of Sabah to new audiences.
Beyond performing music, Tompuvan is committed to preserving, promoting, and reinventing traditional Borneo instruments and musical traditions for future generations. The band believes that cultural music should continue to evolve while remaining connected to its roots.
Tompuvan has performed at festivals and cultural events in Malaysia and internationally, including the World Music and Dance Festival in Hakodate, Japan, representing Sabah on the international stage.
Through their music, Tompuvan hopes to share the stories, spirit, diversity, and cultural richness of Borneo with audiences around the world. Music Unites Us.
