Aoi Tagami
Vocalist.
Since around 2014, she has been performing in a wide range of settings—from outdoor spaces to theater venues—using nothing but her own body and voice. Her work includes performances that highlight the act and phenomenon of singing itself; pieces that weave together song and spoken word; poetry created through an improvisational method she calls “Mite Yobu” (“Seeing and Calling”), in which landscapes are turned into spontaneous song and verse; and improvisations employing extended vocal techniques.
In 2019, a six-month stay in Indonesia inspired her to begin performing improvisationally. After releasing her long-form vocal piece “The Insect Whose Antennae Stretch Infinitely” (2020), which combines song, narration, and voice performance, she has focused since 2022 on performing her own compositions as a singer-songwriter. In 2024, she released her first album, “All That Shimmers.
